For water enthusiasts the Voyageurs National park in Minnesota is an amazing vacation spot! You can navigate the park in a kayak, motor boat, canoe and a house-boat. Backpacking across the park is also amusing. The park has approximately fifty miles of scenic trails through which you can discover the inside of the Peninsula including the beautiful back country. Sounds cool, right? You should read on…

The park has four major lakes (Sand Point Lake, Lake Kabetogama, Lake Namakan and Rainy Lake), along with several small lakes with plenty of interconnected waterways.  The park offers 3 boats which can be hired for exclusive events and for parties. With a great deal of water, fishing is obviously another widely popular sporting activity in the national park. You might be able to catch northern pike, small-mouth bass, walleye, muskellunge and crappie, if you fish in one of the major lakes. The minor lakes which dot the park are homeland to fish varieties like, large-mouth bass, lake trout, yellow Perch and bluegill, etc.

The national park also offers exciting camping alternatives; you can sleep in a tent beneath the stars or camp right away in one of the house-boats. These sites require a free permit and can be accessed via boat only. The campsites are offered in a first come first serve basis and the rule is only different for group campgrounds.

From Dec to Mar the water paradise turns into a play-ground for the winter sports fans. The frozen lake surfaces and specified trails like the Rainy Lake Trail, The Kettle Falls Trail and the Rudder Bay Trail offer superb snowmobiling options. The park has various picturesque trails for snowshoeing too. Ice fishing, cross country skiing and camping are other common winter recreation activities. You can get more information about it from various travel blog sites.

Regardless of the time of year, you will obtain unique accommodations around the park. Ensure to book your Minnesota lodging prior to your adventure.

Park ranger led naturalist programs and boat excursions are provided in the summer. The Evening Campfire, North Canoe Voyage, Otter boat tour, Voyager boat tour and the Voyager Adventure for kids are some of the most popular programs.

Thus, take a break from the coast and enjoy an unusual yet cool ‘watery’ vacation.
